In the summer of 1974 the Xth British Commonwealth Games came to New Zealand, and athletes from 39 countries, as well as visitors from at home and abroad converged on the city of Christchurch. As Games 74 records some of the events won and lost, it recaptures something of the sense of immediacy and sharing that made this event rather more than just another international athletic meet - for the participants, and for the country as a whole.
