Developed as a gold mining region, dairying is now the mainstay of Golden Bay.

This film looks at the activities on the Page family farm and the mining of dolomite at the former coal mine at Mount Burnett. Also mined in small quantities are asbestos, marble, lime and silica.

The Golden Bay cement works features, as well as work and leisure activities in the town of Takaka. An early Newmans coach parks in the main street. Locals include: Matt Galloway, Norm Benson, Mr Halley, Mrs Bidder, Eric Spence.
