“This highly personal story follows two women in their battle with Borderline Personality Disorder. The struggle for Maria De Silva came to an end in 2003 when she, amazingly, took her own life by setting fire to herself in Aotea Square. Rachel Kavanagh on the other hand is still with us, although suicide attempts have plagued her life too. Two hundred scars cover her wrists and body - coping with this disorder is not easy.
Should I Live, Should I Die helps shed light on a truly debilitating disorder unfamiliar to many. "I don't necessarily want a label attached to me," writes De Silva before she died, "I just want somebody somewhere to know what's going on with me."
Meanwhile, Kavanagh visits psychologists, therapists, the mental hospital where she was admitted and finally her supportive family. "You had to think about how to word a sentence in case she felt rejected," says Rachel's Mother Joy Soole.” Xtra; http://xtramsn.co.nz; 14/04/2005
