The Cook Islands, named after Captain James Cook who discovered them in 1772, lie in the middle of the Pacific Ocean and are governed by New Zealand. One of these islands named Aitutaki is the focus of this documentary. The government has built a modern administration building and a hospital. The school has a roll of 700 pupils, the largest of the Cook Islands. Many of the pupils re-enact island legends. One legend based on the falling coconut, reminds them of the story of Hikiroa and Otane.
