Hinepūkohurangi and Uenuku had a son named Pōtiki. The Ngāi Tūhoe people, ‘Children of the Mist’ are their descendants living in the isolated Urewera country. In this film, Ngāi Tūhoe people find ways to hold on to the traditions and life-style of the past, while living and working in the urban present.

It focuses on: activities around Ruatāhuna; Rūātoki; Maungapōhatu Valley; Kawerau Tasman Pulp and Paper Mill; education; employment; Te Tira Hou Marae in Auckland and the Annual Tūhoe Festival at Rūātoki.
