Annabelle Serpentine Dance
Edison Manufacturing Co., 1895
Filmed at the Black Maria Studio by WKL Dickson and William Heise, and shown at the first public screening of motion pictures in Wellington on 28 October, 1896. The Evening Post, of 29 October enthused, “But the palm among the pictures must be accorded to a skirt dance... the limelight effects of which were beautifully rendered, while the grace of the evolutions far exceeded any dancing we have seen in New Zealand.” Print held by the New Zealand Film Archive, original film preserved by the Museum of Modern Art, New York.
