Robin and Nina Faulkes, Hamilton, ordered and paid for a kilt while touring in Scotland. The kilt was sent to New Zealand but returned to Scotland. On arrival again in New Zealand the Faulkes were requested to pay $575 in duty and GST by Customs. They were told if they could provide proof that they purchased the kilt in the United Kingdom the duty would be waived, however Customs would not release the kilt before payment of duty.
