Story about the Deans family of Christchurch, covering five generations, from the arrival in 1840. They started farming in Riccarton, giving it it's name, they also named the Avon river. Sheep and cattle were brought from Australia to "Riccarton" church. Land was selected at Darfield and a new home "Homebush" was built. The family still farms this property, John Deans, a great grandson of the original settlers escorts Alison Parr around the property.
