An airport runway in Munda, Solomon Islands, has been cleared of old World War Two unexploded ordnance, around 6000 items, and with land owner disputes resolved it is now open. The New Zealand Government contributed $25 million in aid and it is now hoped that the runway project will boost tourism to the remote islands. The airport at Gizo is also being redeveloped and is expected to open in about three weeks.
