A group of ex streetkids and petty criminals, decked out in army surplus uniforms under the command of a former convict may not sound an ideal recipe for social reform but the New Zealand Legionnaires Academy based in South Auckland's Otara is proving that if the community cares for its misfits they in turn can learn to have respect for that community and respect for themselves.
