Ngā Taonga Sound & Vision is New Zealand’s audiovisual archive. We are passionate about collecting, caring for and sharing the stories, creativity and history of Aotearoa New Zealand, and we want those who join us in our mahi to be passionate about that too. Ngā Taonga is a Charitable Trust and our kaupapa expresses our commitment to the principles of the Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
Mātauranga Māori Vacancies: Ngā Tūranga Mātauranga Māori e wātea ana.
In 2020 we instigated TIAKINA, our Kaitiaki framework to ensure iwi/Māori have a say in the appropriate protection and use of their taonga we hold. E tika ana kia whai reo ngā Kaitiaki ki ā rātou taonga kei ngā whare pūranga pēnei i a Ngā Taonga. More and more people are discovering the richness of reo and mātauranga Māori in our collections – ngā tutuku a ngā tūpuna.
As well, we are starting work early in 2021 on some exciting new initiatives including community training and digitisation wānanga for at-risk audiovisual taonga, the preservation of the iconic 1974 six-part documentary series Tangata Whenua and a pilot project around Traditional Knowledge Labels. He maha ngā kaupapa whakaharahara kei mua i te aroaro.
All this and more means that we have created and are recruiting for a number of new Māori specialists roles. Ko koe tēnei? The roles extend from management level to entry level but they all have an emphasis on proficiency in te reo Māori, mātauranga Māori capability, as well as a deep appreciation for the preservation and access that we must provide for Kaitiaki and their taonga. Tēnā, tono mai ki a mātou.
