Matariki Herenga Waka!
This year's official Matariki theme is Matariki Herenga Waka – For Everyone. Ngā Taonga is pleased to present our 2026 programme, which reflects the themes of unity and inclusion. The film compilation depicts Aotearoa New Zealand’s shared history through a selection of audiovisual taonga cared for by the Archive. Each item adds to the story of who we are and where we’ve come from.
This programme presents a shorter edit of the original 47-minute curated collection Ngā Wai e Rua – Stories of Us, which was first published on our website in 2019. Tune into Whakaata Māori on Sunday 12 July at 7.30PM to see the full-length version live.
