Matariki Herenga Waka – Matariki for Everyone

Matariki Herenga Waka! He kaupapa mō te iti, mō te rahi, mō te katoa.

Kua tōia mai te matū o te whakataukī nei ko ‘Tāmaki Herenga Waka’, hei tāhū kōrero mō tātou i te matahi o te tau Māori nei. Ahakoa he kōrero tēnei e hāngai pū ana ki te whaitua o Tāmaki Makaurau, ko Aotearoa whānui tonu te herenga o ngā waka, te herenga o ngā tāngata nō whenua kē e karangahia nei ko Aotearoa tō rātou kāinga, ināianei. Nā konā i pihi ake ai ko ‘Matariki Herenga Waka’ hei kaupapa whakanui i a Matariki o te motu.

This year's official Matariki theme is Matariki Herenga Waka – For Everyone. Ngā Taonga is pleased to present our 2026 programme, which reflects the themes of unity and inclusion. The film compilation depicts Aotearoa New Zealand’s shared history through a selection of audiovisual taonga cared for by the Archive. Each item adds to the story of who we are and where we’ve come from.
